How to Design Creative That Actually Reads on a Window Screen

A vertical screen seen from six feet away for three seconds has its own rules. Here's what works.

Design for 9:16, portrait

Window screens are vertical. Image or video both work, but the artwork should be built portrait at 9:16 from the start โ€” cropping a landscape design almost always cuts the important part.

Six words, one idea

Someone reading your ad is walking. Lead with a short, bold statement, then one supporting line. Fine print belongs behind the QR code, not on the screen.

Contrast over decoration

Bright type on a dark field reads best at night, which is when window screens get the most attention. Avoid thin fonts, busy backgrounds, and low-contrast brand pastels.

Always end with an action

Scan, visit, call, book. A screen ad without a next step is a logo with nowhere to go.
